Mary Tavy and Brentor Community Primary School is an outstanding village school of about 70 children, with small classes and happy, high-achieving children. It strives to ensure that all its pupils reach their full potential through a varied and creative curriculum and is always looking for new ways to enable them to experience the excitement and wonder of learning.
It prides itself on being a happy, friendly school and is situated on the edge of Dartmoor in this beautiful area of West Devon. The school was established in 1836 in the village of Mary Tavy.
Although its catchment area includes Mary Tavy and Brentor, the School also has children attending who live in the Peter Tavy area, Tavistock, Whitchurch, Grenofen and even further afield.
The school is extremely proud of its achievements. The children at Mary Tavy and Brentor Community Primary School are supported in their learning by dedicated staff, governors and parents.
There is a wide range of Clubs that are offered free of charge to the children. These include Singing, Ukulele, Recorders, Cross Country, Sports, Needlecraft, Chess and Drama Clubs. They are provided so that the children have a richer and more varied school experience whilst having fun. Most of the pupils in Key Stage 2 attend at least one club and children from these clubs are regularly invited to sing, play sports and display work within the community.
The PTA is very active and plays a large part in the life of the School. It organises and runs a variety of fundraising and social events. Events have included the Summer Fayre, children’s Christmas Market, Quiz Night, children’s Bingo, Halloween Party, Chocoholics, Bags2School and a weekly cake raffle. The PTA also supports the School by subsidising some educational events, sports kit and transport costs for educational visits.
The PTA is always looking for new ideas and welcomes all offers of support.
